For Sara Blixt, nature and the sea are not just a source of inspiration – they are the very foundation of her artistic work, her lifestyle and the way she sees the world. With a passion for both kitesurfing and wave surfing, combined with her interest in photography and ceramics, Sara has created a life where these different elements merge into a creative symbiosis. We had the opportunity to talk to Sara and talk about her surfing, art, and how she finds time to take care of herself after a day full of adventures.
Sara talks about her life as a surfer, photographer and artist
“I have always had a strong attraction to nature, but my interest in the sea was only awakened when I started windsurfing at the age of 15. Before that, I lived with my family in the Rocky Mountains for three years, where skiing was my great passion. When we then moved back to Skåne – which is flat and windy – I needed a substitute and my dad suggested that I try windsurfing. I was hooked straight away and windsurfing gave me the same magical feeling as skiing: flying weightlessly over water or snow, completely in tune with the elements.”
“When I started studying in Lund, I swapped my windsurfing board for a kiteboard, as it was so much easier to bring all my kite equipment on the bus out to Lomma. However, it wasn’t long before I got a car so I could be out even more and discover the entire coast of Skåne – in search of new kite and surf spots. It was during these little road trips that I started documenting the adventures with my camera, and my interest in photographing water sports took off. Since then, the camera has taken me around the world on trips as a surf and kite photographer.”
It was also during my time in Lund, when I lived on Laboratoriegatan, that I first tried my hand at pottery – and that’s where Labbet Ceramics was born. As my small ceramics business has grown, my interests have also merged more and more. Nowadays, cups with surfing and skiing motifs are actually my best sellers, and it feels both personal and meaningful that the combination of my greatest passions has become so appreciated.”
Sara started surfing many years ago and has since developed a deep connection to the water and the elements that come with it.
Favorite Places to Surf and Kitesurf
Sara has traveled all over the world to find the best spots for both surfing and kitesurfing. But there are a few particular spots that hold a special place in her heart.
"In the winter of 2022, I visited Cape Town for the first time, and it really is a magical place if you love water sports. There are plenty of kite and surf spots near the city, and thanks to the way the coastline is shaped, there is almost always a spot with good conditions."
Beyond the surfing opportunities, Cape Town is an incredibly multifaceted city – there’s so much culture, food, sports and history to discover. The combination of powerful nature and vibrant city life makes it easy to feel inspired there.
But it's not just the water that makes these places special for Sara – it's also the atmosphere and the free feeling she gets when she's in these environments. Surfing or kitesurfing in such beautiful surroundings gives her an energy that also rubs off on her artistic work.
How do you take care of your skin after a long day outdoors and on the water?
“I'm pretty particular about my skincare because I've spent so many hours on the water. When I get home after a day of surfing, I always start with a shower. The Eillom Shower Gelis perfect for me – it's gentle, yet effective and gets all the salt out of the skin without drying it out. It really feels like a cleanse after a long day.
"To give the skin additional hydration, Sara uses The Eillom Body Oil. “After the shower, I love to massage inThe Eillom Body Oil. It gives my skin an amazing glow and feels so nourishing. My skin always feels so soft and moisturized.”
Sara finishes her skincare routine with The Eillom Protective Face Cream to give the face the hydration and restoration it needs, especially after being exposed to salt, wind, cold and sun. “I like to use a good face cream that protects against the climates and weather I am exposed to and moisturizes the skin after a long day outdoors. The Eillom Protective Face Cream is perfect for this. It feels light on the skin but provides long-lasting moisture that lasts all day.”
For Sara Blixt, surfing and kitesurfing are not just about sports – they are a way to find yourself, a source of creativity and a way to stay connected to nature. Her artistic work and passion for ceramics reflect the same freedom and movement she feels when she surfs or kitesurfs. And by using skincare products like The Eillom Shower Gel, The Eillom Body Oil and The Eillom Protective Face Cream, she makes sure to give her body the recovery and care it deserves after a day filled with adventure on the water.
